D&M Toddler Safety , Inc.
* Little or no cost involved
1. Use a towel on top of door instead of a door mouse .
2. Use a wash cloth over your tub spout .
3. Remove lid from toy box . Thats the safest box .
4. Temporarily remove unsafe furniture . Such as tips easy or has sharp edges or corners .
5. Rearange drawers and cabinets .
6. Lower your water temperature between 114 degrees and 120 degrees .
7. When not in use place a quilt and pillows around raised hearth .
8. Buy a plastic tackle box or tool box and a small luggage lock to lock medicines in .
9. If you feel confident bolt or anchor top heavy furniture to wall or floor .
10. Make a list of any of your childs special needs such as medicines and place in location that is easy to find . Like a refrigerator door .
* Things not to do .
1. Don't wait to long to safety proof your house . Many times people end up rigging up something unsafe until they can get proper safety items .
2. Don't rig things up . Such as cardboard boxes for barriers . This just gives a false sense of security .
3. Install gates . Very few people choose the proper safety gates or install them properly .
4. Install locks . Most locks fail in a short time. Proper locks are hard to install .
5. Substitue rubber bands for locks .
My best advice is hire a reputable professional babyproofing company
11. Check for chokeable items . If it fits through a toilet paper role its chokeable .
12. Pour water down unused drains such as basement drains . Where water can stagnate and cause mold . Optional method is to pour some vegetable oil in the drain to seal the water .
6. Don't use inflatable tub spout covers kids can bite and end up choking on .
