As parents , we know that toddlers often forget the rules about safety . Scolding them can make the area or item more attractive . We want to enjoy our children , but if we spend most of our time worrying about their safety , then we lose a great deal of our joy watching them grow .
Although childproofing your home does not replace parental supervision it does substantially reduce the risk of injury . It provides safety at that crucial time that may be needed when you are distracted .
There are very few accidents that are truly accidents . With the right planning they could have been prevented . Preventable accidents are still the leading cause of death in children up to age 14 . Children ages one to three are at the highest risk of poisoning .
It doesn't matter if someone else says they grew up ok without babyproofing .
Why risk being in the percential that doesn't make it ? A little prevention can go a long way .
Creating a safe and positive enviornment in your house for your child.
- Place all caustic substances in locked cabinets .
- Remove all small magnets from refrigerator, they are choking hazards .
- Remove stove knobs, be sure stove foot is attached on bottom of stove .
- Load the dishwasher with all the utensils pointed down .
- Move all glass items in the refrigerator to a higher shelf, and in the back .
- Use the back burners of your stove and point handles inward .
- Lock all cabinets and drawers containing glass , knives , sissors , other sharp objects , small objects .
- Be sure no appliance cords are hanging off the counter .
