Whats wrong with this acrylic barrier ?
This acrylic barrier was installed only on the center screen of the iron bannister . The edges or corners were not rounded . Leaving sharp edges like glass to cut . The bannister was easy to climb where it was left open along the sides of the screen . There were not enough ties to keep the acrylic from being pulled on which could lead to cracking the actrylic . here are different grades of acrylic . This was the cheapest grade usually found in hardware stores . If there was anything that could have been done wrong , it was it this case .
This gate was installed by the client . They just didn't know any better and had no claim of being professional . The problem here is pretty easy to see . The gate is set too high because the only way to install it was above the base moldings . This gate is approximately 8 inches off the ground . There is another danger as well . The basement stair is behind the gate .
This is the lower portion of a universal molding . Notice the circled area you will see the molding is cracked and was left that way . Not only that but the idea of the molding is not to screw to the post . The screw went all the way through this one into the post .
This is a foot operated compression gate . Whats the problem ? It is installed at top of stair . Warning on this gate say's do not use at window or stair . The bigger problem with this foot operated gate is opening with your foot seems nice and convenient .A toddler can put its weight on the pedal and the gate pops open !
